This is an excerpt of a user review for the Sonicare Advance 4700 taken from ePinions.com:
I have heard my dentist telling me for years about how an electric toothbrush will do a better job cleaning my teeth and gums than anything else. Quite simply, the motion is better and results in cleaner teeth and healthier gums. With the exception of a few month period, I was not a believer.
A few years ago I spent a month or two with an electronic toothbrush and discovered two things: my mouth did not feel as clean and the thing leaked "oil". I was turned off to the concept until recently.
My latest trip involved the good old "wallet bleeder", errr, dentist, making the suggestion yet again. He praised my home care and suggested making the change. I have been on a health and healthy habit kick since getting married and decided that my wife would probably like me to have teeth 30 years from now. Hence, I listened to the "wallet lightener", err, dentist and he suggested the Sonicare Advance 4700.
The toothbrush has high speed bristles that "remove tobacco and coffee stains in a month". The circular brushing motion means that your teeth get cleaned and your gums get the light brush that they need in order to stay healthy. The bristles are "extra" soft which makes a difference in one area where I have always struggled: not applying too much pressure. I have always applied too much pressure and that has resulted in the occasional wearing down of my gums. Additionally, the soft bristles do not pose a problem for sensitive teeth.
The 4700 has a feature that I like and do not like. There is a two minute timer that will automatically stop the toothbrush when time is up. I like this because it keeps you on pace, but I do not like it because it means that I am done. I have to turn the brush on again. On the good side of the time equation is a beeper that beeps every 30 seconds in order to hint that it is time to move to another section of your mouth. Again, a good thing in that it keeps you moving, but a bad thing in that I do not really want my toothbrush beeping at me.
I do like the accessories (Never knew toothbrushes had accessories!) that come with the package. The toothbrush itself comes with two interchangable brush heads that snap into the handle portion with ease. They should be changed every few months and can be picked up at any drug or grocery store.
I am very pleased that I listened to the "Human Money Pit", err, dentist, this time and went out purchased an electric toothbrush. The Sonicare 4700 provides a good cleaning and, if my dentist is correct, it should mean cleaner teeth and healthier gums. An expensive (Around $90 new. Amazon lists them used for $70- if you dare.), but important purchase.
