Crowns

Crowns or caps are dental restorations that cover the entire tooth. If a tooth is weakened by cracks, fractures, and large fillings or has been treated with a root canal, a crown will strengthen the tooth. Or, if there is not enough tooth structure to support a filling, a crown may be necessary.

Crowns made entirely of porcelain are most often used on front teeth. Their natural and translucent appearance makes them the most aesthetic restoration for the front teeth. For tooth-colored crowns where strength is important, porcelain is fused over metal. They look natural and are ideal for teeth where appearance and strength are important. Gold crowns are usually used in molars or back teeth. They are strong and durable and less vulnerable to fracture or chipping than porcelain.

The Sonicare toothbrush is ideal for teeth that have crowns or caps. Because the edge of the crown extends to or below the gumline, it is critical to keep this area clean and healthy.

Sonicare's fluid cleaning action helps to remove plaque at the gum line where the crown and tooth meet. Sonicare is safe to use on crowns and promotes good gum health. Flossing daily is also recommended.
